An affiliate of Design Shanghai, Design China Beijing is well-known for showcasing exceptional design and partnering with leading studios, galleries, brands and influential media from China and abroad to create unique design-focused events. This year, they’re approaching design from a different lens.
Unlike previous editions, this year’s Design China Beijing event will revolve around six core themes:
• Designing a Sustainable World
• Circular Design Thinking
• Climate Changes Everything
• On the Path to Net Zero
• Nature by Design
• Building Sustainability and Green Design
Dedicated to promoting sustainability in practise, the event has rebranded as the Sustainable Design China Summit. Held in Beijing at China World Summit Wing Hotel from 26-28 September, the summit will explore the world of design from a sustainable perspective and host more than 70 industry leaders, sustainability innovators and creative thinkers who are focused on green design solutions.
Hailing from around the world, guest speakers include the likes of Robert Greenwood, Partner and Managing Director of Asia at Snøhetta, a leading international architecture, landscape and interior design firm, the world-renowned architect Stefano Boeri, founder of Stefano Boeri Architetti, known for creating the Vertical Forest, an exemplary global biodiversity masterpiece, Allan Zhang, CEO of Rui’an Xintiandi Commercial Management Company, a leading sustainable commercial property investor and manager in China, and Rao Hong, Chief Planner of ARUP China, a world-renowned engineering consulting firm.
In line with previous Design China Beijing events, this year’s summit will host a Special Features Panel. Leading the panel is Chris Lefteri, world-renowned material design expert and author of “Materials for Design.” His curated exhibition of more than 50 different design materials is sure to be a big drawcard for summit attendees.
“The use of materials is at the heart of design, and the evaluation of environmentally friendly materials is multidimensional, based on the industry, product, life span, and expected recycling methods,” he said in a summit press release. “By helping designers understand materials and apply appropriate environmentally friendly materials to their designs, the design industry can better discern and reinforce the importance of materials to sustainability.”
With panel discussions focused on each of the six core themes, a special features exhibition and workshop, an exhibition of sustainable design booths will be free for members of the public to visit at the summit venue. To experience the ‘green’ atmosphere of sustainable design and learn about ground-breaking innovations in the industry, register your interest on their website. Early bird tickets are available from now until 9 September.
