Hammer time: Rare Chinese masterpieces, magnificent jewels in Artfund International Hong Kong’s debut auction

Artfund International Hong Kong will host its Autumn Auctions 2017 at Island Shangri-La from 24 to 25 November, with previewing exhibitions from 23 to 24 November.

Artfund International Hong Kong’s debut auction will comprise of three distinct lots of invaluable works, including Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy, Yixing Zisha Art, and Magnificent Jewels. With over 390 masterpieces across 10 categories on offer, the auction will present a stunning variety of revered art works to art collectors and connoisseurs.

Chinese paintings and calligraphy

Artfund International’s Autumn Auction series will offer a number of highly sought-after works of Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy. A series of antique paintings and book collections from The National Art Museum of China (NAMOC), calligraphy works by prominent literati, and important Chinese painting works restored in Japan are expected to receive paramount attention from bidders. The auction will provide an exceptional visual journey through the works of celebrated masters such as Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi and Huang Binhong, among others.

Yixing Zisha Art

A much-anticipated collection of Yixing Zisha Art, a traditional form of stoneware that combines meticulous craftsmanship with profound historical value, will showcase both imperial and contemporary works by celebrated Zisha masters and emerging artisans. The diverse collection will satisfy collectors of all interests, with auction highlights including an Imperial Yixing Stoneware Teapot and Cover from the Qianlong Period in the Qing Dynasty (estimate to be confirmed), Ceramic Pottery by Gu Jingzhou (high estimate: HKD 4.5 million), and ‘The Great Metaphor’, a precious Zisha teapot by He Daohong (high estimate: HKD 5.5 million). The auction will also include nine extremely rare examples of Imperial Zisha pieces that have never been publicly exhibited.

Magnificent Jewels

The Autumn Auction will also showcase 23 Magnificent Jewels. Highlights include a heart-shaped Type IIA flawless diamond of an exceptional pink and purple hue, weighing approximately 20.36 carats, pave set and mounted in 18-carat rose gold (estimate to be confirmed). Also up for auction is a Type IIA cushion-shaped vivid yellow and flawless diamond, weighing approximately 19.37 carats, set within a brilliant-cut pear-shaped diamond and mounted in 18-carat white gold (high estimate: HKD 10 million). An additional highlight is a flawless Type IIA pear-shaped D colour diamond, weighing approximately 10.53 carats (high estimate: HKD 9.6 million).
