Alibaba’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival brings Tmall Ferry to Victoria Harbour

The world’s biggest online shopping day is almost here. Are you ready for November 11?

11.11 Global Shopping Festival is an initiative of Alibaba Group, and held annually on their e-commerce platform Tmall. It is unquestionably the world’s largest 24-hour online shopping event. This year, for the first time, Tmall brings Chinese brands to an even wider audience by engaging with consumers in Greater China and throughout Asia.

On Saturday 4 November, Sinclair partnered with Uniplan to drive mass engagement and generate excitement in Hong Kong for the 11.11 Global Shopping Festival. We invited Hong Kongers to enjoy free rides on Star Ferry routes between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui to celebrate the main attraction of this year’s event: free delivery on any items purchased during the biggest one-day sale on the planet.

To create buzz, renowned Hong Kong celebrities Dodo Cheng and hip-hop duo FAMA were invited to create a short video that went viral in just 4 days with over 350,000 views. Savvy shopper Cheng is best known as Hong Kong’s favourite “Shopping Queen”, a reputation she built following her star turn as host of 2016 TVB series Dodo Goes Shopping.

Cheng and FAMA also made a surprise appearance on the Tmall Ferry, a one-day pop-up featuring four experiential areas showcasing Tmall’s wide offerings from supermarket items, fashion goods, the latest tech gadgets, beauty products and more. Over 40 media and KOLs attended the preview of the Tmall Ferry, where Cheng and FAMA shared their top shopping tips with lucky fans. The Tmall Ferry was later opened up to the public to enjoy a party with live entertainment and interactive games, and was attended by over 250 lucky Hong Kong Tmall fans who we hosted by team members of Alibaba Hong Kong.

To make sure the 11.11 message spread far and wide, the Tsim Sha Tsui and Central ferry piers, as well as the Star Ferry, were wrapped in Tmall branding, with on-site promotors giving away specially designed ferry tickets and balloons to over 4,000 riders.
