Internationally celebrated chef David Thompson to launch Aaharn in Hong Kong

Aaharn Hong Kong - Chef David Thompson

David Thompson, the internationally award-winning chef, will open his new restaurant this October. Aaharn, which simply means ‘food’ in Thai, will stand alone as Hong Kong’s first truly elevated Thai dining experience when it opens this autumn.

Aaharn, located in Tai Kwun, adds a distinctly international edge to one of Hong Kong’s most high-profile cultural districts. The restaurant is on the top floor of the historic Armoury building, built in 1924, and overlooks Tai Kwun’s open-air Parade Ground.

Chef, author and restaurateur, David Thompson is considered by many to be the world’s leading authority on Thai food, and has called Bangkok home for more than 30 years. Inspired by the Kingdom’s rich culinary history, Australian-born David’s food conveys the integrity and bold flavours of the cuisine. Among his numerous accolades, David was the recipient of the peer-voted Lifetime Achievement Award at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2016, honoured for his dedication to promoting the heritage and culture of Thai cuisine, researching and bringing back to life long-forgotten recipes discovered in old Thai texts. David’s London restaurant Nahm was the first ever Thai restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star, which it received within six months of opening in 2001, with the Bangkok iteration placing first at S.Pellegrino’s Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2014 and remaining a fixture on this list, as well as the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, ever since.

“I am delighted to be opening Aaharn at Tai Kwun, Hong Kong’s Centre for Heritage and Art,” says chef David Thompson. “Hong Kong is one of the world’s greatest dining cities and I look forward to becoming a part of the city and its culinary landscape, bringing the best of Thai cuisine to one of Asia’s most exciting hubs.”

Advance reservations for dinner will be taken from Monday, 27 August 2018. Reservations can be made by calling +852 2703 9111 or by emailing hi@aaharn.hk.
