With 14 years of experience under his belt from leadership roles in China, Malaysia, Iraqi Kurdistan and now Hong Kong, Matt has enjoyed planning and executing digital PR across a range of industry sectors, from art to fashion, tech to property. He has managed communications throughout East Asia for the British Council’s arts division, advised consumer product companies on the use of Chinese social media, developed digital strategies for the Government of Malaysia, and managed tech websites for Microsoft. A passionate advocate of educating the next generation of talent, Matt is a Commonwealth Communicators Organisation Founding Fellow and Mentor.
Matt is driven by a thirst for real-world cultural insights and experiences. A graduate of European Studies from the University of Hull, Matt’s native English skills are complemented with fluent spoken Spanish.
My guilty pleasure is… “Travel. Guilty as in it’s an expensive hobby, but it’s also what keeps me going. (Oh, and PS4.)”
My favourite cuisine is… “Malaysian. There is unparalleled variety and an incredible range of flavours. Durian strudel, anyone?”
The advice I would give to someone thinking about working in PR is… “Do not overcomplicate things. Remember the ‘granny test’: if your granny can get it, anyone can. You’re also going to need to grow the thickest of skins.”
